David Marmor has definitely been added to the list of indie horror directors to look forward to, for his debut "1BR" is a very well composed, conceptual and thrilling ride into the frightening science of a cult & hopelessness of its members. A thriller not without its flaws, but one well worth seeing. Commenting to support the channel. This movie is a three out of five for me too, technically. But personally, I give it a 4 out of 5; half a point for being competently independent and half a point because I am intrigued by cults and cult dynamics.

Soon Sarah finds herself in the middle of awful schemes, hopelessness, helplessness, paranoia, torture. and a cult. This is where the real interesting part of "1BR" starts, the middle layer of the cake was the most intriguing on my mind. A lot of what Sarah goes through as the cult attempts to convert her to their ideology and agendas is derived from stories of actual experiences from members of the Church of Scientology, NXIVM and other similar organizations.

Leslie is such a bad actress, I love Josh but the chemistry wasn't there. At the end of the Anime series 'Naruto' Hashirama says something along the line of You were too eager to change and do everything by yourself, we can only do so much, we must let the next generation do the rest to the villain Madera. The child is a symbolism for what actually effectuate true changes in the world, the hope of the new generation. No matter what we do. whether we riot, protests or pass legislation, no matter what politicians we put into power. true changes only come with each successive generation. With each new generation comes a new way of thinking, only then can true change happen in society. From the chivalry of knights and lords, to Victorian beliefs, to the current capitalism and democracy Era. each change in these school of thoughts are only ever successful when new generations take power after the old have faded away.
